Blog post #3 - Due Tuesday, August 9

Dear students,

You have heard a lecture in class about slang and language changes. You have also heard a few of JenniferESL's American Slang lessons. Now watch and listen to this video of hers about slang expressions related to technology. Then answer the following questions:

1. Which of these expressions have you heard before? Which ones are new to you?
2. Which ones do you think you would like to  use in the future?
3.Which ones do you think might be outdated?
   4. This lesson is called "Cool Car." Which of these expressions could   you use for other technological devices ( computers, for example)?

Please fill in the  definitions of the expressions on the sheet you were given in class. Don't worry about reacting to classmates this time!

Thanks,
Diana

  1. 1. I have heard before these expressions: pretty much, high tech, that's sweet, check this out, hands-free, like a dream, cool with that. These ones are new for me: a clunker, cutting edge, take it for a spin, you bet, behind the wheel.
    2. I think I would like use these ones: pretty much, fully loaded, high tech, that's sweet, check this out, hands-free, like a dream.
    3. In my opinion these expressions might be outdated: a clunker, cutting edge, you bet, behind the wheel, user-friendly, get a load of (this).
    4. I think these expressions could be used also for other technological devices: pretty much, fully loaded, high tech, that's sweet, check (this)out, like a dream.

3.I think "get a load of this" and the word "clunker" might be outdated.

4.To me, I think "hands-free phones," "voice activative," "user-friendly," "voice command," "navigation system" can absolutely use to other technological devices like phone or PC.

  7. Dear students,

Thank you all for your comments. Of course, I have heard all of these expressions. The ones I use all the time are pretty much, high tech, user-friendly (what tech devices need to be for me!), check out, cutting edge.

As for outdated expressions: i am not an authority on this, but I pretty much (!) agree with many of you. I think that "a clunker," "get a load of this," "take for a spin" and "you bet" are probably outdated.

Those usable for other tech devices besides cars are: high tech, user-friendly, hands-free and voice-activated ( especially for cell phones), and cutting edge.

    Happy weekend to all,
    Diana

  8. 1. Expressions i have heard before are: pretty much, that's sweet, check this out, like a dream and to be cool with that.

2.I would want to use "you bet" and "user-friendly" in the future plus those expressions i have already heard.

    3. "behind the wheel", "get o load of this" and "cutting edge" should be in my point of view outdated.

    4. As far as i'm concerned, i think all of them could be used for other technology devices( in particular the cell phone and computer) except "behind the wheel", "take it for a spin", and "clunker".
